Map of the Island of Hawaii, Hawaiian Islands (Hawaiian Government Survey, W. D. Alexander, Surveyor-General; map by W. A. Wall, 1886…
The Hawaiian Government Survey’s 1886 map of Hawaiʻi Island: the moku and ahupuaʻa, the island-wide trails — the coastal ala loa and the mountain trails between Kona, Kaʻū, Hilo and Waimea — the old Hawaiian place names along every coast, and the lava flows of 1801–1881.

| Accuracy | About 4 km (RMS 1 km at 15 control points). Placed by hand in a map-queue session and approved by a person. If something sits in the wrong place, members can fix it with Fix placement on the map. |
| Method | Placed by hand on the sheet’s own 20′ graticule: its border ticks (19°00′–19°40′ N, 155°00′–156°00′ W) were fitted with a polyconic projection, the other coordinate of each tick taken from that fit, and the 15 points (with Kealakekua, Cape Kumukahi and Upolu Point) warped with a first-order (affine) polynomial. See the methodology. |
